The kitchens in these towns are not interchangeable. A 1900s farm house in Berthoud, a rental near the Colorado State campus, and a 2019 build in Timnath need three different conversations and three different budgets. Each page below covers what is typical where you live.
Fort Collins
The home market. Everything from an 1890s Old Town kitchen with no dishwasher to a 2000s east-side builder kitchen ready for its first real upgrade.
Loveland
Larimer County neighbor to the south, about fifteen miles down US 287. Railroad-era downtown houses, mid-century ranches, and a large newer south side.
Windsor
Between Fort Collins and Greeley, straddling the Larimer and Weld county line. One of the fastest growing towns in Northern Colorado.
Timnath
Just east of the Harmony Road and Interstate 25 interchange. Population grew more than ninefold between 2010 and 2020.
Wellington
About ten miles north of Fort Collins on the Interstate 25 corridor. A railroad town that became a bedroom community.
Greeley
Weld County seat, founded in 1869 as the Union Colony. The widest range of housing eras of any town on this list.
Berthoud
Twenty-one miles south of Fort Collins, straddling the Larimer and Weld line. An 1880s farm town with a new subdivision edge.
Severance
Weld County town northwest of Greeley, connected to Windsor by the Great Western trail. One of the newest housing stocks in the region.
Johnstown
About nine miles southeast of Loveland, straddling Weld and Larimer counties near the Big Thompson.
Laporte
Six miles northwest of Fort Collins on the Cache la Poudre. The first settlement in Larimer County, and unincorporated.
How the geography here works
Northern Colorado is a string of towns along the Interstate 25 corridor with Fort Collins at the north end. Larimer County covers Fort Collins, Loveland, Wellington, and Laporte. Weld County covers Greeley and Severance. Windsor, Berthoud, and Johnstown straddle the line between the two.
What changes from town to town is the housing rather than the geography. The older cores, Fort Collins Old Town, downtown Loveland, the original blocks of Windsor and Johnstown, have small closed kitchens in houses that hide things behind the plaster. The subdivision edges, which is most of Timnath, Severance, and the newer sides of every town on this list, have builder kitchens on modern rough-in where nothing is hidden and the whole budget goes into what you can see. Those are two different projects, and the sensible budget for each differs by a wide margin.
Distance affects scheduling more than it affects price. A full remodel in Johnstown absorbs the drive easily because the crew is there for weeks. A one-day countertop swap in Berthoud does not, which is why smaller jobs at the edge of the map sometimes wait for a convenient week.
